Fund Raising Sale 2010

A fundraising sale was organized by the volunteers of Mithuruwela on 20th March 2010 at St. Pauls’ Parish Hall, Colombo 4. The objective of the sale was to raise funds to start a Medical Fund to assist needy patients at the National Cancer Hospital, Maharagama.
The unstinted response of the volunteers, membership, friends and well wishers was heartwarming. Items that were donated for the sale included new and nearly new clothes, ornaments, books, costume jewellery, handbags and shoes, etc.
It is a matter of pride that the target set by the Management Circle was achieved at the end of the sale.

Annual General Meeting

2009


The 4th Annual General Meeting of Mithuruwela – the Cancer Support Network – was held on 2nd May 2009 at St. Pauls Auditorium. Colombo 4 at 4.30 p.m.
The occasion was graced by Dr (Mrs) Sulochana Yoganathan, Director of the National Cancer Hospital, Maharagama.
The elected Office Bearers would be holding office for a period of 2 years according to the Mithuruwela Constitution. The following persons who were elected in 2008, will continue to hold office for another year.

The key issues highlighted by the Chairperson in his welcome address were :
• Emphasis on the need to enhance awareness of cancer by printing brochures and conducting awareness programs.
• Participation of a committee member at a Forum in Geneva organized by the American Cancer Society.
• Commercial Bank (CSR Project) translation of Henry Jayasena’s “Mage Kathawa” VCD from Sinhala to Tamil and production of same.
Copies of VCD were handed over to the Director, National Cancer Hospital, Maharagama.
• A short course in Spoken Tamil was organized for the volunteer befrienders at the Open University, Nawala.
