Brochure on National Cancer Institute Published in Sinhala

Mithuruwela has printed 5000 copies of the Brochure on the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama in Sinhala and handed them over to the Medical Education Unit for distribution to all patients registering at the OPD. This was done in response to a request for assistance from the NCI.

The Tamil (2000 copies), and English (3000 copies) versions of this brochure will soon be published by Mithuruwela.

Workshop for Would-be Befrienders

A Workshop has been organised for would-be Befrienders on 30th April 2005. This was in view of the fact that a number of Volunteers expressed a wish to support cancer patients and care-givers through such befriending.

The Workshop was conducted by Ms Nalini Ellawala, Director, Sri Lanka Sumithrayo at “Mel Medura”, Horton Place, Colombo.7. It was well attended and gave everyone a good insight into the skills needed for this activity. Mithuruwela has been offered facilities at ‘Shanthi Sevana’ Maharagama – which will be an Information Room and a site for befriending services.

Fund-raising Activities

Colourful stickers supporting Mithuruwela’s objectives will soon be made available to help raise funds for Mithuruwela’s activities. Currently, Mithuruwela has been able to mobilise a fair number of individual contributions from friends and well-wishers in Sri Lanka, the United States, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

We continue to need your kind support however – to continue our support to cancer patients and their families in Sri Lanka!

Public Lectures

Mithuruwela’s programme of public lectures will commence on May 7th with a talk- “Metastatic Cancer:My Healing Journey” by George Mu at the Girl Guide Headquarters, Colombo.
